On Sunday evening we had Benjamin, James, and James's friend Miranda over for dinner. Spencer and I made some pizza dough and had it ready for when we picked them up and we each made our own little pizza! Spencer did a great job with the dough, and Benjamin brought some sparkling apple cider to share with us. It was yummy! Then we played a very competitive round of Bang! Bang's a wild west card game where you try to either kill the sheriff or kill the outlaws. The sheriff (Benjamin) won. I was killed first. It was fun to hang out and relax for a little bit though. I love Sundays.
Church was alright. The talks in Sacrament meeting were good, and then for the second week in a row we were asked about 5 minutes in advance if we'd substitute for nursery. Spencer sure is good with little kids. Most of the kids were pretty good, but one in particular just wanted to take toys from everyone else the whole two hours. Hopefully the ward doesn't think we're too good at nursery... ;-) Maybe next week we'll be able to go to class.
After church I worked on the baby quilt some more. I actually started the quilting part of it. The top of it looks really good, but when you look at the bottom you can tell it's not a professional job. It's alright for a first attempt at quilting though. Thank goodness for the internet or I wouldn't even have known how to start. I'm pretty proud of it.
On Saturday we spent a couple hours in open lab to study the bones we're being quizzed on tomorrow, and then we listed to Hamlet for a few hours at home. I went into work for an hour somewhere in the middle of that, and when I got back we made some apricot jam with the apricots from the tree in our yard! It turned out pretty good, but I want to try making a second batch and I think I'll put less sugar into it. One of these days. Maybe next Saturday we'll have time. This was a nice, productive weekend and the little break felt really nice after a very long week last week. The first week of a semester or term are always long for me.
Be careful using less sugar, the pectin and sugar need to be at certain ratios for it to set properly.
ReplyDeleteIf you really want to use less sugar, be sure to search for low sugar jam recipes so that it will still set!
That sounds like a really good weekend! So fun to have James & Benjamin, and for them to have you guys. It's always nice to escape campus and single life for a few hours. I'm glad you're taking good care of them.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like lots of wards put the young married with no children couple in nursery. Like being shut in a room for 2 hours every week with a bunch of wild toddlers will make them want children. :) Or maybe it's to make them realize they aren't ready yet.
I agree, Spencer is great with children.
